Welcome to the forefront of innovation in the mining and construction industry, where Sandvik Rock Processing Solutions (SRP), a distinguished business area within the Sandvik Group, develops solutions for processing rocks and minerals. This project aims to act as a contributing effort towards the development of a more effective and efficient processing solution, and in turn reduce the mining and construction industry’s carbon footprint. The project is conducted in close collaboration with the R&D team and therefore presents an opportunity to gain R&D experience from a leader of their industry.
Background and scope of the project
The cone crusher consists of multiple lubrication systems and in this master thesis the goal is to assess the feasibility of implementing a level monitoring system. The solution is intended for a round chamber with a moving axle in the center. The axle will both rotate and move axially in both directions. The top of the axle will either be dry or submerged in grease depending on its position. There are multiple grease variants in use depending on the application of the crusher. All variants are highly viscous solutions, and the construction must take the movement of the axle and grease into consideration.
Work description
The objective of this master thesis is to develop and finalize a functional level monitoring system. The project entails generating and evaluating multiple concepts in close collaboration with the R&D team. Testing of the developed system can be conducted at Sandvik’s research facility.
Duration of project
The master thesis project lasts 20 weeks full-time. The time plan is flexible but should preferably be started within the first quarter of 2024.
The location is at our headquarters in Svedala, but the working location can be flexible based on the student’s preferences – however weekly on-site attendance is preferable.
Student background
We’re looking for a student pursuing a Master of Science in Engineering or equivalent, preferably within Mechanical Engineering. The ideal candidate should exhibit a strong blend of creativity and curiosity, but also possess an ability to drive communication cross-functionally.
