The Swedish School of Textiles is a hub for development within the textile and fashion sector through its educational programmes at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral levels in artistic fashion and textile design and technology, business, and management, as well as through its research activities and close collaboration with business and industry. The Swedish School of Textiles conducts extensive research regarding textile materials engineering, polymeric textile fibres, textile reinforcement for composites, smart textiles, textile management, and textile design.
This doctoral studentship position involves conducting your own research on a full-time basis.
The research will be carried out within the project "Local bio-based residual streams with potential use in the textile and fashion industry" – an interdisciplinary research and innovation project in textile technology, design and management. The overall aim of the project is to develop sustainable solutions for green textiles and fashion by utilising local bio-based residual streams, which results in positive societal and environmental effects and is based on close research collaboration with the recruitment of a total of three doctoral students in each subject area.
From a textile and fashion design perspective, the aim of the research project is to investigate the potential of textiles obtained from local bio-based residual streams. A particular focus is on artistic experimental design research to explore biodesign and biomanufacturing for increased quality of life with regard to the environment, society and culture.
Research in design in the field of textiles and fashion, generally, means artistic design research with a strong focus on, both theoretically and practically, deepening understanding of the interplay between analysis and synthesis in the design process as a basis for developing design methodology, techniques, and programmes. The research approach is mainly experimental and focused on design in which the development of methodology, programs, and techniques relies on critical experimental artistic work.
