The Industrial Marketing unit has an important role in all the university's business programs and the MSc program in Industrial Management and Engineering. In the next few years, we also have exciting work ahead of us as we will develop several new courses. Within the unit, we are currently working on research projects focusing on branding, tourism, Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and we regularly develop new project ideas.
To support our research and education in the long term, we are now looking for a Ph.D. Student who wants to work with creative and analytical problem-solving, often in collaboration with organizations and companies.
Description of the research subject
Industrial Marketing involves activities and processes for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers and other stakeholders. This includes marketing of goods, services, and information between organizations and their customers. Marketing across international borders and in digital channels are areas of particular importance for the subject, as well as services marketing, tourism, and branding.
Project description
The Ph.D. Student will work on the project "Digitalization 2030", which is connected to the Center for Distance-Spanning Technologies. The project entails working directly with SMEs in northern Sweden to help drive their growth through advanced digital technologies, including their use of Cloud, Edge, and Internet of Things technologies (IoT technologies). The aim is to understand their usage patterns and collaboration needs to support technology adoption. By participating in this research project, you can make a real impact empowering SMEs and get exclusive insights on challenges and opportunities at the forefront of technology innovation. The theoretical framework and specific research questions are developed by the doctoral student him-/herself in consultation with the supervisor team. Both qualitative and quantitative methods will be used in the project, allowing the doctoral student to broaden and develop his/her methodological knowledge in practice.
Duties
A Ph.D. Student position involves both theoretical and practical work. You learn how to run long-term and challenging projects, from problem formulation to final reporting. The Ph.D. student is trained in scientific work in the form of publishing scientific articles in journals and presenting results at international conferences. A doctoral student also participates in third-cycle (research) courses.This includes both general courses on topics such as scientific method and project management, as well as more subject-specific courses in the marketing area. In addition, you will have the opportunity to try out the teacher role by teaching some of the courses given in the business programs or industrial management. You will be part of a group of researchers, teachers, and Ph.D. Students in Industrial Marketing. As part of the team, you have the possibility to influence the subject's operations and participate in development work.
Qualifications
The general entry requirements for doctoral (third-cycle) studies are as follows: a completed degree at the Master’s (second-cycle) level with completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 second-cycle credits. Alternatively, equivalent knowledge has been acquired in some other way within or outside the country. In addition to the general entry requirements, knowledge of business administration or industrial management with a focus on marketing or a related subject is required. In the selection of candidates, we place great emphasis on the applicant's personal characteristics, ability and potential for conducting research, as well as interest and potential for teaching. The applicant should be thorough, analytical, have good communication skills, and an ability to take initiative. It is vital that you can cooperate in a team but also work independently. Research and teaching take place in an international environment; hence, understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity is important.
As scientific publications and presentations are carried out in English, applicants must be able to express themselves fluently in English both in writing and orally. Teaching in English can also be part of the job duties. Furthermore, it is a great advantage if you are fluent in spoken and written Swedish so that you can collect data in Sweden and teach courses that are given in Swedish.
Previous experience of working with scientific publication, popular scientific communication, and/or teaching is qualifying. Work experience in marketing, project management, or similar areas is also considered a merit.
Further information
Employment as a Ph.D. Student is a full-time position that is limited to four years. Teaching or other department duties can be added with a maximum of 20% full-time. Start date by agreement. The position is located at the Department of Social Sciences, Technology and Arts at the university's campus in Luleå.
