The Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics is seeking a Professor and Head of Subject/ Chaired Professor in Solid Mechanics. Luleå University of Technology is at the forefront of the green transition and collaborates with leading companies driving this transformation.
The research subject of Solid Mechanics at Luleå University of Technology is a modern field that employs analytical, experimental, and numerical methods. Our research spans fundamental to applied studies and includes collaborations with both national and international researchers and industries. The subject contributes to several Master of Science in Engineering programs, primarily in Mechanical Engineering, and has a strong doctoral program. Solid Mechanics is a central discipline within the mechanical field and one of the core subjects in the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program. The subject encompasses the development of analytical, experimental, and numerical methods within solid and structural mechanics. Key research areas include modeling and simulation for predicting manufacturing processes and product performance, with a particular focus on developing material models for both solid and granular materials and their interactions. The subject benefits from a well-equipped laboratory for model calibration and validation, with specific emphasis on dynamic events incorporating very high loading rates and temperatures.
The subject currently has about 20 employees, forming an established team with a balanced mix of doctoral students and senior staff. Several adjunct professors from industry and European institutes are also affiliated with the subject.
Solid Mechanics focuses on the development of analytical, experimental, and numerical methods within technical mechanics. Key research areas include modeling and simulation to predict manufacturing processes and product performance, with a focus on developing models for the behavior of solid and granular materials and their interactions.
