Mowi Feed is the feed manufacturing division within Mowi, the Global leader in salmon farming, processing and marketing. Having entered production in June 2014, Mowi Feed has quickly established itself as a competitive supplier of salmon feed playing a key role in supporting Mowi Farming in its delivery of high quality, nutritious, safe and sustainable salmon.
Currently operating from its factories in Kyleakin, Isle of Skye in Scotland and in Valsneset in the Trøndelag Region of Norway, Mowi Feed has an annual production volume in the order of 500,000 tonnes per year. We manufacture a broad portfolio of conventional and organic feeds for both fresh and seawater phases of salmon growth in Scotland, Ireland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Norway.
The Role
Mowi Feed needs to meet nutritional demands to deliver a best in class feed to the farms, as well as to handle a raw material market with access to both established and new raw materials. At the same time, we need the feed to have physical properties which allow it to perform optimally during handling and distribution. This role is focused on optimising our processes so that we can produce a high performing feed at a competitive price.
The successful candidate will integrate with teams across both sites, working closely with representatives from QA, Process, Formulations, and Engineering. From time to time the postholder will need to talk to suppliers, product developers, nutritionists and others, spread over many locations. The duties undertaken will include:
Ensuring product is Right First Time.
Linking theoretical knowledge to a practical approach on feed manufacture and ability to implement recommendations.
Analysing product that fails QA testing – establishing root cause and recommending improvements.
Reviewing raw material properties with the aim to model process behaviour, while always ensuring feed quality as first priority.
Attending daily Operations meeting – reporting on QA from previous 24hrs.
Defining and leading improvement projects together with the process and operations team.
Driving continuous improvement throughout the factory.
Participating in process development projects covering both sites.
Sharing knowledge across both Kyleakin and Valsneset.
Qualifications/Skills
Achieved a theoretical education in Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering/ Process Engineering.
Experience of working in a feed or similar manufacturing environment – ideally familiar with Extrusion.
Experience and understanding of process improvement and plant optimisation – including writing SOPs and leading Lean improvements.
Raw material characterisation and understanding organic chemistry
Good communication skills which requires fluency in English, both written and spoken
Well-developed IT skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to communicate across all levels.

The place of work will be the Mowi Fish Feed Plant at Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye.
The position will report on a day-to-day basis to the Operations Manager in Kyleakin, while also supporting and being directed by the Technology and Projects Manager based abroad.
