Background and scope of the project
The integration of big data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT) has become essential for optimizing industrial processes, reducing energy consumption, and improving sustainability. This thesis delves into several state-of-the-art challenges of hands-on implementations of Apache Spark and Microsoft IoT Operations into existing OT production process prototype environment deployed by Sandvik Coromant. Parts of the thesis includes system architecture, design and development, implementation and integration into an existing software environment where you analyze features and compare the different implemented solutions. The work also includes evaluation of state-of-the-art AI/Machine Learning (ML) capabilities and functions for the specific use-cases.

Student background
This master thesis is mainly directed towards Master of Science in Systems Science, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, and Engineering Physics with Applied Numerical Analysis. We’re a global organization and you need good English skills, verbally and in writing. Knowledge of Swedish is beneficial.
Duration of project
The Master Thesis work will be carried out full-time for 20 weeks and work can be done remotely with at least three trips for face-to-face meetings in Gimo, Sweden. The thesis is planned to start in January 2025.
