Barnes Strömsholmen is looking for a driven and innovative person with a background in mechanical engineering with experience in producing metal industry with a strong drive for team management. The Global R&D manager´s primary responsibility is to set and execute a technology roadmap and deliver New Product Development (NPD) projects with quality solutions on time and budget. Owner of development process and with focus on delivering projects to commitments. Forward looking, scouting technologies and with a clear drive for innovation. Our facilities are equipped for the design, test and scale-up of gas spring production. The right candidate will have the demonstrated ability to lead an experienced global team, manage multiple cross functional stakeholders, implement structure and process for new product development, and drive for results. This position reports to Global Director of Product Management, R&D and Marketing and the role is based at our office in Tranås.

Key Responsibilities:

Team leadership

• Manage an experienced global R&D development team of 12 people, 9 in Tranås and 3 in Ohio, USA

• Be a change leader and key driver as we are developing our new global R&D organization towards ownership, drive and engagement.

Global strategy and roadmaps

• Develop and implement a global R&D strategy aligned with Barnes and Motion Control Solution Business Unit global strategy.
• Develop 1-3 year technology roadmaps to drive innovation and support the development of current and future products.

Process optimization

• Own the development process and project delivery, ensuring commitments are met.
• Drive improvements to shorten development lead time through process optimization while maintaining high-quality engineering work.

Stakeholder engagement

• Effectively manage multiple cross-functional stakeholders and lead the NPD steering group.
• Uphold impeccable integrity, high interpersonal skills, and seamless communication across different functions.
• Encourage and enable cross-functional cooperation throughout the development life cycle.

Qualifications:

Education:

Masters in Science in a relevant area.

MBA or related advanced degree encouraged.

Experience:

• Minimum of 10 or more years of experience within R&D.

• Deep technical knowledge and understanding of metal components design and production.

• Prior experience in gas spring design or gas/hydraulic systems is advantageous.

• Direct management experience is a must, with a preference for prior experience in B2B producing industries.

This position includes occasional travel to the US and other international locations up to 20 days per year.
