An Apprenticeship is a job with an accompanying skills development programme under an Apprenticeship Agreement. It allows the apprentice to gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with functional and personal skills, required for their immediate job and future career. These are acquired through a mix of learning in the workplace, formal off the job training and the opportunity to practice and embed new skills in a real work context.
Course Content:
Survival in the water during maritime emergencies.
Emergency first aid in response to maritime accidents or medical emergencies.
Maritime security
Maritime sector overview
Maritime employment environmental health and safety practice.
Vessel fire prevention and firefighting.
Basic vessel watchkeeping
Control Operation of Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
In Addition Apprentices will also be required to complete the follow:
Functional skills in literacy and numeracy.
Employer Rights and Responsibilities
Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
Enclosed Spaces
Designated Security Duties
Engine Watchroom Rating Certificate
STCW Basic Safety Training
ENG1 Medical Examination.
Who you are
At Stena Line your personality matters as much as how good you are at what you do. In our apprentices we like to see use of initiative, creativity and enthusiasm within all aspects of their position. Your ability to provide a consistently high standard of service is of course important, but so is a passion for the role you will be placed in. All of our apprentices have the responsibility for our passengers’, and their own safety onboard. You need to be open to new challenges, have a positive outlook, and an ability to connect with people. If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you!
Qualifications:
18 years old at the time of application
Functional Skills Level 2 (or equivalent) in Maths and English
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Our vessels depart from Holyhead, Dublin, Belfast, Cairnryan, Liverpool, Fishguard and Rosslare.
